The Workshop Curriculum

INTRO TO STORYTELLING

This module is an introduction to the Anatomy of storytelling, the evolutionary journey that Jennifer’s work took, and the lessons she learned along the way. 

There is a focus on our sources of inspiration and lessons on studying music, as well as homework to watch.

VISUAL LESSONS

You will explore visual elements of film and how to incorporate them into your work. From Lighting, to Colour, Movement, Composition, Expression, Focal lengths and cropping techniques and camera angles.

SUBTExT AND DEEPER UNDERSTANDING

You will learn about how to identify subtext in film and add it to your own work to create emotional and authentic images, Plot vs subtext theory, developing and highlighting the tone of a story and different film genres and how we can apply this knowledge to our own businesses and work.

PHOTOGRAPHING STORY AND TONE

You will learn about how to visually document sound, detail shots, tone, as well as a deep focus on understanding the characters of your story. You will also learn how to effectively create cinematic opening and closing shots and you will review a full wedding and the storytelling images you can create for yourself.

EDITING FOR THE STORY

This module will explore the editing process within lightroom, Culling, colour grading, cropping, how to bring an image to its fullest potential.

THE PRESENTATION

You will learn about how to effectively present your images to your clients, through your gallery, slideshows, blogging, and social media. You will also learn marketing techniques inspired by the film industry and how to avoid cliches.

CREATING YOUR OWN NARRATIVES

You will learn a step by step framework for creating your own narrative sessions. 

FILM STUDY

This module will act as a guide to your film study, which will take place in both monthly group calls over google meet as well as casually in the facebook community.

Interviews with industry leaders, creative community challenges, discussion topics for the community as well as a resource library full of links to videos you can learn from.
